2008 in review
Tuesday, December 30th, 2008With only a day left until the end of the year we here at Omni are taking a moment to reflect on 2008. During the year we have blogged about everything from advertising trends, to auto commercials, to the automotive industry troubles. True, 2008 was a scary year! The rising cost of gas hit the american consumer hard in their wallets, changing their buying habits which resulted in lower car sales and added to the growing recession. While traditional media advertising sales decreased, online advertising increased. By mid November the news of GM’s bailout request was revealed, and in December, Chrylser announced plans to shut down their factories.
The year started out looking good for Toyota and not so for GM as Toyota overtook GM in worldwide sales for the first time since 1931. By February, AutoNation was announcing a major loss of profits. Meanwhile, as showroom sales decreased, more consumers used the internet to research and purchase their cars, making dealerships reevaluate their methods on selling.
Not all our blogs were so grim. We continued to post videos of the car commercials for Acura, Nissan, Kia, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Volvo, Infiniti, Hyundai, Honda, and Cadillac and Saturn.
So as 2008 winds down we here at Omni look forward to blogging on an unpredictable 2009.
