Volvo hits the Brakes

While other manufacturers are hitting the brakes on their factories, Volvo is hitting the brakes for you.

The all new Volvo XC60 can actually stop itself. That’s right, if you’re driving in the city and you’re about to bump someone stopped at a red light, the Volvo XC60 will stop itself from hitting the car. The system only works for low speed accidents (under 20mph), you’re on your own on the highway. Nevertheless it’s a pretty sweet attribute for a car. This definitely makes the brand image of safety stronger for Volvo.

Tip of the hat to AdFreak for the find.

At Omni Advertising, we’re really proud of the work that our in-house studio does. So I’m excited to show off this new ad created by Justin, one of our in house editors.

The copy is quite simple, but the execution brought the spot to another level.

This spot was created for our client, The O’Brien Autopark in Urbana.

Detroit Auto Show scales down – sort of

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

What’s going on in Detroit? Seems that the auto show is missing not only some major manufacturers – Nissan, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Land Rover, Rolls-Royce and Ferrari – but also some of the glitz associated with past years. No doubt in part due to the state of our economy, some exhibitors have scaled back their displays due to the scruity of the consumer and the government. Hybrids, electrics and future concepts are focused on over outdated gas guzzlers.

Speaking of hybids, Honda is showing their new Insight. Did I blink or didn’t Honda discontinue the Insight years ago? Of course, the new incarnation has been updated with a roomier 5-passenger cabin. “The new Insight Concept also benefits from improvements to Honda’s latest IMA® technology, including reduced size and cost along the way.”

The new Mini Cooper S Convertible is also being introduced at the show. Huh? While it is not a hybid, the Mini is still selling like hot cakes in the US.

Of course, now every model is green. Case in point, Fords 500HP Shelby GT 500, Audi’s R8, Lambourghini, and Jaguar’s XKR, to name a few.

In the past, we’ve posted a lot of manufacturer ads on this blog, but never any one of our ads. That changes now. The spot above is an ad we created at our in-house studio. We wrote it, produced it and bought media for it. The whole advertising kit and kaboodle done on the Omni premises.

In fact, we have even created our very own youtube channel to showcase our spots. So sit back and enjoy some of the creative that has come out of Omni Advertising over the past couple of months. I await all of your feedback.

New Scion Spot Targets Youth Market

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

This video from an Adweek article – Scion Takes The Road Less Traveled shows the new creative Scion is taking to target the youth market.

The spots do not bow to the conventions that have made automotive advertising an exercise in beautifully photographed generica. The tC ad manipulates images of tricked-out Scion compacts in a digital mashup of color and synthesized beats. And in lieu of an A-list celebrity touting fuel efficiency and financing, the xB creative lets the car’s toaster-oven-with-headlights aesthetic speak for itself.
